In order to keep J.P. Howell working, the Devil Rays optioned him to Triple-A Durham on Sunday. He'll make an abbreviated start there Thursday and take his regular turn on Monday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Barring an unexpected change, Howell will rejoin the Devil Rays to start one of the doubleheader games versus the Yankees on July 21.
June 3, 2007
Perhaps the Devil Rays shouldn't have waited so long to call J.P. Howell up. Howell allowed just one run on five hits and no walks while striking out seven over eight impressive innings Sunday. The former first-round pick is a solid pickup in AL-only leagues.
