MLB.com reports that the Mets' interest in Andruw Jones is declining. The trade talks initially took place during the Winter Meetings, and more talks have not been scheduled.

ESPN.com reports that the Mets have some interest in acquiring Andruw Jones from the Dodgers. The 32-year-old has one more year left on his two-year, $36.2 million deal. If he were to land in New York, he would play right field and Carlos Beltran would return to center.

Torre said Jones will take back his starting spot in center and Juan Pierre (if healthy) will stay in left field, leaving Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier for right field.

Andruw Jones said that based on the way his ailing knee felt after two days of rest, he felt he could have played on Wednesday, according to the LA Times. Jones, who has torn cartilage and a cyst in his right knee, rode a stationary bicycle for around 10 minutes and spent time hitting off a tee. He rested for about 40 minutes and when he didn't experience any swelling in his knee, went into the batting cage and hit about 60 balls. The plan is for Jones to run the bases and catch fly balls in center field today, which is a day off for the Dodgers. If the swelling that he had Sunday evening doesn't come back, he said he should be ready to play in the Dodgers' series opener against the Cardinals on May 23.

Jones did hit .222 last season, an awful number, but motivated by a short 2-year contract does anyone doubt that a .270-35-100 season isn't possible this season?

Andruw Jones took advantage of the strong winds in Vero Beach, Fla on Friday to hit his first homer for the Dodgers. Jones has begun taking off some of the extra weight he reported with in his first season with the Los Angeles and is down 10 pounds from the 240 he reported with in late February.

Andruw Jones has admitted that he's a bit overweight this spring -- he's listed at 240 pounds -- but he told manager joe Torre that he'd work it off, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jones said he went into the offseason trying to gain weight after hitting just .222 with a slimmer physique in 2007. Let's hope the added weight is more muscle than flab and that he can come through on an improvement on last season's disappointing performance.
