Derrek Lee was unable to play last night because his left foot was too sore after fouling pitches off the foot Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Daily Southtown. "He can't put any weight on it," manager Dusty Baker said. "It's better than it was (Thursday), and hopefully it'll be better tomorrow."

Derrek Lee said that his sore left shoulder felt better Friday, and he expects to be ready to return to the starting lineup on Saturday against the Marlins, according to the AP. "We're going to give it one more day, but it feels a lot better," Lee said. "I'm kind of relieved. I should be playing Saturday for sure."

Although Cubs manager Dusty Baker said Derrek Lee had more inflammation in his sore shoulder and could miss the weekend's games, Lee said his shoulder wasn't sorer Thursday and that he would play no later than Saturday, according to the Daily Southtown. "We'll see how he feels," Baker said. "It's a day-to-day thing. We'll have to wait until (tonight)."

The Cubs learned Wednesday that results of an MRI on the left shoulder of Derrek Lee were negative, according to the AP. "It's nice to find out for sure it's nothing serious," Lee said. "All along we pretty much knew it wasn't, but it's reassuring. It's something I've been playing with, so, like I said, we knew it wasn't serious."

The Sun-Times reports that Derrek Lee had been bothered by discomfort in his left shoulder for about 10 days before leaving yesterday's game. He will have a precautionary MRI today, though he said he will not take part in the Home Run Derby due to the soreness.
