As expected, the Yankees exercised their $16 million option on Bobby Abreu Friday, according to the AP. "Bobby Abreu possesses a unique skill set and has proven to be a durable and reliable asset to this club," general manager Brian Cashman said. "Consistency has been a hallmark throughout his career." The Yankees would have been forced to pay a $2 million buyout had they declined the option, so paying $14 million for a hitter who wears out pitchers like Abreu does was a lot more reasonable.
