Scott Elarton underwent surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder Tuesday, according to the AP. He'll miss the rest of the season. "I think we've got to look at mid-June next year," GM Dayton Moore said of Elarton returning to the major leagues. "Sometimes those timetables fluctuate based on how a guy does in the first month of rehab. That is probably pushing it a little bit, being optimistic."

Elarton went on the DL with a strained shoulder on Tuesday and had an MRI on Thursday, which will be read by physician Steve Joyce prior to making a decision regarding surgery. However, at this point in time, surgery appears to be necessary.

As expected, manager Buddy Bell tabbed Scott Elarton as his opening day starter, according to the Kansas City Star. “Scotty is the guy who we’re pretty sure about,” Bell said, “plus he pitched some pretty big games for Cleveland last year, too. He came to camp in great shape and ready to go. And he’s a veteran guy, so I thought that was the best way to go.” Elarton became the clear favorite to start on opening day when Mark Redman went down with a knee injury.
