He had been away from the team since July 26, the day after his father died. Eric Bruntlett was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to clear room on the roster. August 2, 2006 Orlando Palmeiro will return from the bereavement list on Wednesday, according to the Astros website. Houston will make a subsequent roster move to create space for Palmeiro. July 28, 2006 Manager Phil Garner said that Orlando Palmeiro plans on using the entire seven days he's allowed on bereavement leave, according to the Houston Chronicle. Jason Lane was called up to replace Palmeiro on the roster, though he doesn't necessarily have to be the one sent back down when Palmeiro returns. July 26, 2006 Orlando Palmeiro was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday because of the death of his father, according to the AP. The Astros brought up Jason Lane to replace Palmeiro on the roster.
