Not even 24 hours have passed since the World Series ended, but we've already had our first major trade this offseason. On Monday, the Braves traded Edgar Renteria to Detroit in exchange for pitcher Jair Jurrjens and minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez. Renteria hit .332 with 12 homers, 57 RBI and 11 steals for Atlanta this year. With Renteria's arrival, Carlos Guillen will make the move to first base. Yunel Escobar will take over as the Braves' starting shortstop. "We are excited to add an all-star caliber shortstop in Edgar Renteria to the Tigers organization," Tigers President, CEO and GM David Dombrowski said on MLB.com. "Edgar is a quality player, proven winner and tremendous leader that solidifies our infield."

Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria came off the disabled list Friday after being sidelined for all but one game since August 2nd. However, he is still a few days away from returning to the lineup, according to the Associated Press.

Edgar Renteria said he will be ready to come off the DL when he is eligible on Friday. Renteria, who has missed 19 games because of a sprained right ankle, was re-injured in his first at-bat back on August 23, according to the AP.

Edgar Renteria tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he sprained right ankle is feeling "much better" than it did when he tried to come off the DL. Renteria was activated on August 23 and re-injured the ankle. He is eligible to return on September 7.

Edgar Renteria was placed back on the 15-day DL Thursday, one day after he was activated. On the first pitch he saw Wednesday, Renteria checked his swing and aggravated the right ankle sprain that had forced him to miss 17 games. "It's difficult, especially because we're right there in the race," Renteria said in the AP. Martin Prado, who was optioned to Triple-A Richmond on Wednesday but never left Cincinnati, was recalled.

Edgar Renteria will come off the DL on Wednesday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He has been out since August 2 due to a high ankle sprain. "I'm not normal, to tell you the truth, but I know I can play like this," Renteria says. "You have to learn how to play with those things." Yunel Escobar has been playing in his place.

Edgar Renteria is pushing to come off the DL. He took grounders and batting practice on Monday. "I don't know," manager Bobby Cox tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution of the timing. "It might be pushing it. I'd love to. It would be great [to have him in there]. We'll see." Renteria is out due to a high ankle sprain.

Edgar Renteria was able to do a cutting drill Sunday without any pain in his sprained right ankle. The joint was still bothering him when he attempted the same drill on Friday, so it's a step in the right direction, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Renteria also took batting practice without any problems. It looks like he should come off the disabled list within the next few days, possibly as soon as Monday.

While, he's nearing a return to action, he likely won't come off the disabled list for another day or so, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Considering that he sustained a high-ankle sprain on Aug. 2, he's made excellent progress in his recovery. Look for Renteria to be back in the mix by early next week.
