The Nationals announced through their website that they have traded Livan Hernandez to the Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league pitchers Garrett Mock and Matt Chico. "I'd like to thank Livan Hernandez for the many contributions he made to this organization during his four years with the club," said general manager Jim Bowden. Hernandez will join the rotation for Arizona. He was in line to make his next start on Friday, and whether he pitches then or another day may depend on the return of Brandon Webb.

Livan Hernandez has been battling through soreness in his right knee, which required surgery in October, but he plans to keep pitching through it, according to the Washington Post. "The knee, it does not feel like last year," said Hernandez. "It does not feel 100 percent in all my starts. Maybe in one month, it will be 100 percent. Maybe not. One day I feel perfect; another day it feels tight."

Nationals pitching coach Randy St. Claire said he believes Livan Hernandez is healthy, and that Hernandez's struggles are the result of waning confidence, according to the Washington Post. However, an opposing scout disagrees, suggesting Hernandez is still struggling with his surgically-repaired knee. "I think his knee is really bad," said the scout. "I think it's affecting his command mostly. His stuff seems to be as good, and he dials it up when he needs to. He's just not as sharp."
