Livan Hernandez will start Friday at home against the Rockies on three days rest, the AP reports. He went seven innings in Monday night's 3-1 loss to Jake Peavy and the Padres, surrendering two runs and six hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Dana Eveland, a September callup, is slated to go Saturday, with Brandon Webb set for Sunday. Hernandez is a hit-or-miss option even when he's on full rest - we're not excited about what he might do here, working out of his routine. Tread carefully.

Livan Hernandez was beat up Sunday for the second straight start, giving up seven runs and 11 hits in four innings. His spring ERA is now 13.06. "I got beat and gave up seven runs," Hernandez told the AP. "I need to come back tomorrow and keep working and working. I gave up a lot of runs, but the more important (thing) is that I feel good."

Although Livan Hernandez was knocked around for nine runs (seven earned) in 3 1/3 innings Wednesday, he's not concerned, the AP reports. "I never have a good spring," Hernandez said. "I'm just coming to get my work in and make sure I'm 100 percent for the season."

Livan Hernandez has added a sinkerball to his arsenal of pitches, according to the Arizona Republic. "He's not a guy that's thrown a lot of sinkers in the past," Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said. "He's a four-seam (fastball) guy with great command on both sides (of the plate). But he's been working on the sinker a lot, going down and away. And he's taken a little velocity off his four-seamer to get a ground ball. It's something you're going to see him work on a lot this spring."
