You're fooling yourself if you thought that long hitless stretch was the beginning of the end for Ichiro as he will continue to hit, and run, once again this season. Ichiro Suzuki is still 0-for-spring, running his hitless streak to 0-for-21 on Tuesday. The M's leadoff hitter typically has a terrific spring, so the unusually slow start is raising some red flags. Ichiro has hit nearly .400 in his five previous spring sessions.

It's only spring, but those using a late first or second round pick on Ichiro, and others spending $30-$40 dollars for his services, would like to see him break out of his current funk.

Outfielder Mike Morse is hitting .636; shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt a healthy .455, and catcher Kenji Johjima is a steady .444. Noteworthy is Ichiro Suzuki's slow start. He has yet to get a hit. The Mariners would like to see their best player, Ichiro Suzuki, run more often in 2008, according to MLB.com. "As much as he gets on base, and as fast as he is, there's no telling how many bases he could steal in a season," GM John McLaren said. "But we don't want him running just to run. There has to be a purpose behind it." The number that was floated out there was 80, but given the fact that Ichiro hasn't stolen more than 45 bases the past six seasons, a more realistic goal might be 50 since he stole 56 bags as a rookie.
