Jeff Conine signed a one-year deal with the Marlins Friday and then promptly retired, according to the AP. The veteran won two World Series' with the Fish and is known throughout the organization as "Mr. Marlin." Conine finished his 17-year career with a .285 average, 214 home runs and 1,071 RBI.
August 20, 2007
The Mets acquired Jeff Conine from the Reds Monday in exchange for minor league shortstop Jose Castro and minor league outfielder Sean Henry, both of whom were playing for High-A Port St. Lucie. Conine, who hit .265 with six homers in 215 at-bats with Cincinnati, plans on retiring after the season. "I think this is it," he said in the AP. "I can't think of a better way to go out than doing it in the playoffs in New York."
July 26, 2007
Jeff Conine may retire after this season. "As of right now, I'm leaning toward this being my final season," he tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Physically, I feel great. There's no issues I'm battling right now. It's just mentally and with the family, it's getting tougher every year."
April 20, 2007
Jeff Conine was unavailable with an undisclosed injury Thursday, the Cincinnati Post reports. He hasn't seen action since Monday.
April 10, 2007
Jeff Conine is getting platoon work at first base, splitting time with Scott Hatteberg, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Conine is on the short end of the platoon, though, so he's not worth considering in formats other than deep NL-only leagues.
