March 26, 2008

December 13, 2007

July 12, 2007
Jason Smith was claimed off waivers by the Royals on Wednesday. According to the team's official website, the former Diamondback will join the Royals on Friday in Cleveland, replacing infielder Fernando Cortez on the active roster. Smith played just two games for the D-Backs after hitting .212 in 27 games with the Blue Jays earlier this season.
May 28, 2007
Jason Smith was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on May 19. However, the paperwork wasn't sent to the league office until the following Monday, the same day that Smith's appendix burst, according to the Arizona Republic. Since rules state that an injured player can't be outrighted, traded or released, he must be placed on the disabled list. That means that until Smith is healthy, the Diamondbacks will have to pay him to stay on the DL for the next few weeks.
