February 28, 2008 Shawn Green, who played with the New York Mets for the last year and a half of his of his long career, told the New York Post Wednesday night that he has retired.
"I had planned on retiring at the end of this contract," Green said. "If something where I could live at home popped up, then I would have had to take that under consideration. But I still don't know what I would have done."

August 15, 2007 Lastings Milledge started in right field for the Mets on Tuesday night, a surprise move given that a right-hander was on the mound for the Pirates. Shawn Green was on the bench. "Lastings is playing well, and I haven't exactly been killing it lately," Green tells the New York Daily News. "We're trying to win games, and whatever they want me to do, I'll do. They just basically said they're going to play it by ear. It's more day-to-day."
July 26, 2007 Shawn Green had a cut behind his left ear after being hit by a throw from catcher Ryan Doumit in the eighth inning Wednesday, the New York Daily News reports. Green, who hit eighth for the first time since 1997, said his head rang immediately afterward. But, he added, the headaches he often suffers regardless of the jolt seemed to have cleared later. "My ear goes over the flap, unfortunately," Green said.
June 10, 2007 The Mets activated Shawn Green from the DL following Sunday's game. Green had been out with a broken bone in his foot. Ben Johnson was sent down to Triple-A New Orleans to make room on the roster.
