MLB.com reports that Carl Crawford played in an instructional league game hoping to prove he is ready for the playoffs. He experienced no pain in his right middle finger during the game. Although he went 0-for-4 on Monday, both hitting coach Steve Henderson and Crawford acknowledged it was more of a timing issue, since Crawford hadn't faced live pitching since the injury occurred. Crawford was also hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored a run. Crawford had one putout in Monday's game and is scheduled to play another instructional contest on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Tropicana Field.

The AP reports that Tampa Bay put Carl Crawford in the outfield for two innings, then pinch-hit for him in the eighth on Sunday. The two-time All-Star returned to the Rays Friday after being out for nearly six weeks with a finger injury.

Carl Crawford is recovering from an injured hand and for the first time since August 9, he took some swings in batting practice. The Tampa Tribune is reporting that Crawford was very impressive. "He looked good, there was no hesitation," said manager Joe Maddon. "I didn't see any flinching, I didn't see him favor it one time. It looked absolutely normal."

This one hit was Crawford’s first in four games as the “traditional” offensive leader of the Rays attempts to find his stride. He has just one multi-hit game this season and hasn’t stolen a base since April 4th.
