The Cubs are apparently intent in trying to pry Carl Crawford away from the Rays, offering a package of players that includes lefty Rich Hill and reliever Carlos Marmol, according to the Boston Globe. The idea of Tampa trading Crawford right now is silly, as they have control over him through 2010. And in the event they did decide to deal him, they could surely land a more enticing package.

Manager Joe Maddon has admitted that Carl Crawford, out with a strained left groin, may not return to action this season, according to the Tampa Tribune. "I'm not so sure right now that he's going to be able to do this," Maddon said. "It doesn't seem like it's going anywhere where we need it to go for him to participate right now. We'll look at it again after [today's] day off, but I'm not anticipating that he's going to be able to play."

September 22, 2007
It looks like Carl Crawford should be able to play again this season. His strained groin has improved enough that he's expected to play sometime during the Devil Rays' six-game homestand, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Manager Joe Maddon said that Crawford may even be available to pinch-hit as soon as Saturday. Despite Maddon's positive thinking, Crawford said he wouldn't play unless the soreness is gone. Expect the Rays to be smart about using him down the stretch, but it appears there's at least a chance we'll see him in action before the season ends.
September 20, 2007
Carl Crawford's groin injury has yet to improve, making it more likely that he won't return this season, according to the Tampa Tribune. "I still want to stay with the plan of waiting until we get back home after the day off and see where we're at," said Rays manager Joe Maddon. "But we're not seeing a whole lot of definitive progress." Even if it turns out Crawford is able to return this year, it will likely be only for a couple of days, so there's really no reason to hold onto him outside of keeper leagues.
September 18, 2007
The Devil Rays won't put Carl Crawford back into the lineup until they're convinced he's fully recovered from his groin injury, according to the Tampa Tribune. "No, it's not worth risking that at all, as far as I'm concerned," said manager Joe Maddon. "I'm looking big-picture, I'm looking years to come. Of course we want to win these games and we still can … but to me it makes no sense to push somebody at this point. I don't get that. I wouldn't do it." The earliest Crawford will return is Friday, although it's possible the Rays will eventually just shut him down for the rest of the year.

Carl Crawford is considered day-to-day after straining his left groin during Sunday's game according to the Tampa Tribune. He'll be evaluated before tonight's game, and with only 12 games left in the season, the Devil Rays are expected to be cautious with their star player. At the very least, Crawford will likely be sidelined for a couple of days, so keep him out of your lineups for the time being.

"I haven't even picked up a bat." Though he said he doesn't expect a trip to the disabled list, it doesn't sound likely that he will be in the lineup on Monday. The Devil Rays should have a better idea about his status after an MRI is taken earlier in the day.
July 29, 2007
Carl Crawford was out of the starting lineup Sunday for the second straight game because of a sprained right wrist. Crawford was available to be a defensive replacement or pinch run, according to the AP. He's considered day-to-day. "It's still sore," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "The biggest problem is swinging the bat."
July 25, 2007
Carl Crawford returned to the lineup Tuesday after sitting two games with a sprained ankle. Crawford went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tampa Bay's shutout loss to Baltimore. "I'm 100 percent," he told the team's official website, noting he did not see any restrictions on what he did on the field. While it's encouraging to see Crawford back in the mix, we'd like to know what's happened to his power. He hasn't gone deep since the first week of June, and four of his six homers this year came in April.

Carl Crawford sprained his left ankle in the third inning of Saturday's first game, and will likely sit out until Tuesday, according to the Tampa Tribune. "It just looked like they both were more comfortable in the other slots," Maddon said. "Neither came to me and talked about it; this is just an observation on my part based on last year. I thought Rocco did a nice job leading off, and I thought Carl did a nice job hitting behind him."
