The Reds designated Enrique Cruz for assignment on Tuesday, according to the AP. Cruz was called up to fill in after Alex Gonzalez left for a family emergency. Cruz had one at-bat and made one error in his brief stay with the Reds.

The Reds called up Enrique Cruz from Double-A Chattanooga Friday to replace Alex Gonzalez, who is on the bereavement list, on the roster, according to the AP. Cruz was hitting .350 in five games for Chattanooga. Cruz will back up at third, short and second.
