Chris Ray is ready to step up his minor league rehab work. The closer will pitch one inning for High-A Frederick on Friday and one inning for Low-A Aberdeen on Monday, MLB.com reports. Ray underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-August of 2007. The Orioles don't have a timeline for Ray returning to the majors.

Chris Ray, who is slowly recovering from right elbow surgery, threw an inning in the Gulf Coast League on Friday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He threw 17 strikes in 22 pitches in his first live action since surgery last August.

Chris Ray pitched in a simulated game on Wednesday, but he isn't close to being ready for real action. "He'll just continue his throwing program and mound progression," manager Dave Trembley informs the Baltimore Sun. "He has not been slowed down." Ray is coming off Tommy John surgery, and he aims to be back to the majors by late August or early September. The Orioles say they are being conservative and aren't counting on him to return this season.

Chris Ray, recovering from Tommy John surgery, had his third bullpen session Friday, making 30 throws, according to the Baltimore Sun. He expects to go on a minor league rehab assignment on Aug. 1 and still expects to pitch for the Orioles once rosters expand in September.
