The Royals recalled J.P. Howell from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday to start against the Yankees, according to the AP. Howell replaced Runelvys Hernandez, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday night.

The Royals plan to recall J.P. Howell to start Saturday in place of the injured Runelvys Hernandez, according to the KC Star. He was 1-4 with a 7.58 ERA in eight starts earlier this season with the Royals and is 2-1 with a 3.90 ERA in his past six starts at Triple-A Omaha.

The Royals optioned J.P. Howell to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday to make roster space for pitcher Kyle Snyder. Howell was 1-4 with a 7.68 ERA in eight starts for the Royals.

The Royals announced after Friday's game that J.P. Howell will start Saturday night against the Tigers. He originally was the probable starter Monday night at Cleveland, but D.J. Carrasco was a late scratch on Friday with shoulder tightness, and Saturday's starter, Jose Lima had to start on Friday instead.

J.P. Howell won his major league debut against Arizona on Saturday. He allowed one run on four hits and two walks in five innings of work. Howell also had eight strikeouts, which tied the franchise club record for a first big league appearance.

J.P. Howell will be promoted from Triple-A Omaha to start for the Royals on Saturday in his big league debut, according to the Kansas City Star. Howell made just one start at Omaha. He began the year with Class-A High Desert, where he was 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA while averaging better than a strikeout per inning.
