The Devil Rays plan to recall J.P. Howell from Triple-A Durham to start in place of the injured Scott Kazmir on Sunday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He's 5-3 with a 2.62 ERA with Durham but was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA while filling in for Kazmir the last time.

The Devil Rays optioned J.P. Howell to Triple-A Durham Monday, according to the AP. Howell was optioned to make room on the roster for Scott Kazmir, even though Kazmir is not expected to make a start until Friday. Howell held a 10.80 ERA in two starts with the Rays.

The Devil Rays called up J.P. Howell to replace the injured Scott Kazmir in the starting rotation, according to the AP. Howell will start on Tuesday against Detroit.

The Devil Rays acquired J.P. Howell from Kansas City in exchange for Joey Gathright and Fernando Cortez on Tuesday, according to the Royals website. Howell, who hasn't pitched in the majors this season, was 3-2 with a 4.75 ERA for Triple-A Omaha at the time of the trade.
