Reliever Randy Messenger was recalled by the Seattle Mariners from their Triiple-A club, taking the roster spot of Mark Lowe, who was sent down, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Randy Messenger threw a side session of about 35 pitches Saturday and is scheduled to be activated from the disabled list Monday, according to the AP. "It went real well," Messenger said. "Everything's good." He has been recovering from surgery on his broken left hand.

Randy Messenger will undergo surgery today to repair the fracture in his non-pitching hand, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. It's possible he'll be able to pitch again this season. He could begin throwing a week after the surgery.

Randy Messenger sustained a broken left hand during batting practice when struck by a line drive Tuesday, the AP reports. He went on the 15-day DL after the game.

The Marlins traded Randy Messenger the Giants Thursday night for closer Armando Benitez, according to the AP. Messenger was 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA in 23 games for Florida. He will likely compete with Brad Hennessey for the closer's job with the Giants.
