And so it continues. It really serves no purpose to have Kemp on the bench, but the Dodgers have painted themselves into this corner by signing Jones and holding on to Pierre. Of course, Kemp hasn't exactly played well this season with only one RBI and nine K in eight games.

Matt Kemp is expected to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Manager Torre said he didn't want to bring back the slumping Kemp against veteran right-hander Dan Haren on Monday, and added, "You try to pick your spots to get them going and Haren is tough on right-handers. It's tough enough for veteran to work out of slumps. Young guys, they have a problem being patient. In Matt's case, I don't know him as well as I'm going to, but he seems very anxious. I base the decision on what I know and what I think I know. He's overswinging, jumping at the ball instead of letting the ball come to you. I talked to him today and told him he'd play tomorrow. He's going to get plenty of playing time. I told him to be patient with me. I think he understands. I'm not saying he agrees. He says he feels pretty good at the plate and I don't see that." Kemp holds a dismal .176 average over 17 at-bats, and will be looking to bounce back against D-Backs' starting pitcher Doug Davis.

Matt Kemp was on the bench Tuesday, with Andre Ethier starting in right field and Juan Pierre in left. Kemp started in right and Ethier was in left for the opener. Owners that were hoping to see what Kemp could do playing every day might not get what they want after all.

Matt Kemp went 2-for-3 on Thursday as he continues to impress with the stick. Kemp figures to be in a battle for a full-time role in the Dodgers OF at the start of the season with Andre Ethier and Juan Pierre. The most likely scenario will see Pierre starting in LF Andruw Jones in CF and Kemp in RF, but the team will use spring training to help to figure it all out. For his part Kemp hit .342-10-42 in 292 AB last year and he was one of the best hitters in the NL late in the year as he hit .389 in September.

Matt Kemp, who has spent most of the offseason working out in Arizona, has said he's lost 25 pounds since the end of last season, according to the LA Times. He hit .342 with 10 homers, 42 RBI and 10 steals in just 292 at-bats last year and will compete for a corner outfield job during spring training.
