"I know Bruce knows what he's doing. I know (pitching coach Dave) Righetti knows what he's doing. A lot of times it differs from day to day. One day 100 pitches may be too much and the next time 132 may be just enough," Baker said.

Much like the Dodgers did with Chad Billingsley, the Giants chose to leave their scheduled starter, Tim Lincecum, on the bench because of rain at the start of the game. When the rain cleared, Lincecum was summoned into the game. Unfortunately rain struck again and the game was halted for over an hour, but when play resumed the Giants allowed Lincecum to continue pitching. All told he pitched four innings allowing only one run while striking out four to pick up the victory.

After the session he stated, "I feel like I'm on schedule now". Lincecum has been slowed by a mildly sprained right groin, but should be fine in time to make his first start from his number three spot in the rotation.

Tim Lincecum won't take part in Monday's exhibition game with the Giants. Instead, he'll work an A-ball game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "Not to say I couldn't get my innings in in Tucson," he said. "I guess if anything happens to my groin, they figured I'd have to drive 2 1/2 hours back (from Tucson). So it's for precautionary reasons. It's nice to know they're taking care of you and pulling for you." Lincecum missed a recent start due to soreness in his groin, so the Giants moved him to the A-game in order to better be able to control the setting of the contest. As Lincecum said, it's just a precaution, so he should be fine.

Lincecum added that he was really happy to remain with the Giants after he was nearly traded to Toronto in December. The young hurler struck out 150 batters in 146 IP, while posting a 3.94 ERA and 1.28 WHIP last season.
