The Cubs sent Jae Kuk Ryu to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday to open up space on the active roster for Les Walrond, who was called up to start on Sunday night against the Cardinals, according to the AP. Ryu posted a 14.54 ERA in three games (one start) for the Cubs.

The Cubs recalled Jae Kuk Ryu from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday to replace Ryan O'Malley, according to the AP. The Cubs said Ryu will initially pitch out of the bullpen. They have not said yet who will take O'Malley's turn in the rotation this Sunday.

Jae Kuk Ryu sprained his ankle while covering first base while pitching for Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, according to the Cubs website. He left the game after pitching just 1/3 of an inning.
