June 21, 2007 Levale Speigner was designated for assignment by the Nationals Wednesday. Speigner did nothing to impress over 40 innings this year, allowing 58 hits and 39 earned runs. He also walked 23 batters and struck out just 19, so you almost have to wonder why the Nationals were as patient as they were. May 13, 2007 Levale Speigner will start for the Nationals on Wednesday in place of Shawn Hill, who is expected to be placed on the disabled list, according to the AP. "We'll give him a couple of turns and see how he goes," manager Manny Acta said. Speigner has only pitched in relief for Washington this season, holding a 3.77 ERA in 12 appearances. March 18, 2007 Levale Speigner gave up only one hit and no runs over three innings Saturday. Speigner, a darkhorse candidate for a rotation spot, has yet to give up a run in 8 2/3 innings this spring.
