With his second inning strikeout in St. Louis on Thursday, he has become the first person in the long history of major league baseball to strike out 200 times in one season. September 24, 2008 Mark Reynolds struck out for the 199th time and made is 34th error of the season in the Diamondbacks 2-4 loss in St. Louis on Wednesday. September 16, 2008 Arizona's Mark Reynolds is nearing the dubious distinction of becoming the first player in the history of baseball to strikeout 200 times - that is, unless Ryan Howard does it first, according to the Arizona Republic. August 20, 2008 Mark Reynolds has been taking ground balls at second base during batting practice, according to DBacks.com. Outfielder Justin Upton will make his return soon, and to get the best offense on the field, it could lead Reynolds to second, Chad Tracy to third and Adam Dunn to first. He is off to a great start with a .344 average over 32 at-bats, but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts, which he has nine already. With Conor Jackson settling in at first base Reynolds will need to keep on hitting to avoid giving away AB to Chad Tracy when he returns from his knee injury. Reynolds certainly has pop with 21 HR in 393 career AB, but he also has 137 K and just 40 BB, and numbers like that will likely lead to a lowish batting average moving forward. April 6, 2008 Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the ninth and the Arizona Diamondbacks scored three runs in the 10th inning for a 5-2 win over Colorado. Reynolds, ignored in most mixed formats this March, has been solid in the first week of the season. He's hitting .304 with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored. April 1, 2008 Mark Reynolds had a tough day at the plate on Monday against Cincinnati, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, while leaving three men on base. Hopefully he can bounce back and play up to his high potential. March 11, 2008 Mark Reynolds served up a hot serving of baseball bat in the Diamondbacks' 7-8 loss to the Royals in Cactus League play today, going 2-for-3 with a double and a 2-run homer. Reynolds has been quiet in spring training this season and seems all set to fill the 3B job for Arizona this season. It would be nice if his bat would show more often coming down the stretch, but we'll see how he responds once these games count.
