MLB.com reports that Sean Gallagher threw 75 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, feeling no lingering effects of the shoulder fatigue that has kept him out of the rotation since Aug. 19. "I feel good," Gallagher said Saturday. "I felt good going out there and was able to locate my pitches and pitch how I wanted to pitch, and how I know I'm able to."

Sean Gallagher's turn in the rotation has been skipped as he is battling mild shoulder inflammation, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "For a couple of weeks, I just tried to pitch through it and kept my mouth shut. That wasn't smart. I was going 100 percent and all of a sudden I stopped, that's a lot of torque. I felt a little something, not like a pop or a strain, but like a muscle rolled over."

Sean Gallagher isn't being considered for a spot in the Cubs rotation, nor is Jeff Samardzija. "We're going to pitch them here in spring training, but this is not a year for this," manager Lou Piniella said in the Chicago Tribune. "I hate to say that, but we've got veteran pitchers here to consider, and they're going to get every chance, first and foremost. We like Gallagher. I like Samardzija. They're good, young starters with good arms. But truthfully, not coming out of camp. I'd be lying if I said that something like that would happen. We've got seven veteran starters. They're all healthy, they're all throwing the ball well and they're all going to compete." Gallagher pitched poorly for the Cubs last year but is only 22 and has some upside. He's been mentioned as a possible trading chip in the Brian Roberts rumors.
