Richard, White Sox blank Mariners Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Clayton Richard earned his first career victory
with six shutout innings as the White Sox blanked the Seattle Mariners, 5-0,
at U.S. Cellular Field.
Richard (1-2) allowed five hits, struck out two and walked one for Chicago,
which will attempt to sweep this three-game series on Wednesday afternoon. Jim
Thome and Nick Swisher homered for the White Sox, who have won four straight
and seven of their last eight games overall to remain atop the AL Central with
a one-game lead over Minnesota.

Jim Thome went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, and two runs in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. The DH owns six homers, 12 RBI, and 15 runs over 15 games in August, although he has hit just .224 this month.
Clayton Richard tossed six scoreless innings against the Mariners on Tuesday and earned his first major league win. He allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out two.
Joe Crede played five innings for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night and went 0-for-2 at the plate, MLB.com reports. It was his first game since he was scratched from the Charlotte lineup on August 2. Crede is on the DL due to lower back inflammation.
