Astros' Matsui activated from 15-day DL
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Houston Astros second baseman Kazuo Matsui was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Matsui was placed on the DL on August 16 with an irritated disc in his back. Matsui has hit .285 this season with five homers, 23 doubles and 28 runs batted in.

In a related move, the team outrighted pitcher Runelvys Hernandez to Triple-A Round Rock, removing him from the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old made four starts for the Astros this season, posting an 0-3 record with an 8.38 earned run average.... More...

The Houston Chronicle reports that Ty Wigginton left Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rockies in the first inning with a left groin strain. He’s listed as day-to-day. Wigginton, batting leadoff for the first time since Aug. 22, hit a chopper to Rockies second baseman Clint Barmes. Wigginton took a long final stride as he touched the bag, but couldn’t beat the throw and hobbled off the field.

Geoff Geary threw 30 pitches in the bullpen prior to Friday’s game and indicated his strained groin felt better, according to the Houston Chronicle. The last five were four-seam fastballs thrown at full-strength. He hasn't pitched since August 26 due to the ailment.
