Big eighth inning helps Mets top Braves
Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Carlos Delgado's two-run double was part of a five-run eighth inning, as the New York Mets took a 7-3 win over the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a three-game set at Shea Stadium.

Damion Easley hit a two-run single while Ramon Castro, Fernando Tatis and David Wright each had an RBI for the Mets, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Oliver Perez gave up three runs on seven hits along with five walks and three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work. Aaron Heilman (3-7) got the win for pitching a scoreless eighth for New Yor... More...

In the Mets 8-3 trouncing of the Atlanta Braves this evening, it was first baseman Carlos Delgado serving as the voice of power, going 1-for-4 with a double to score two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Billy Wagner's latest MRI showed more swelling in his left elbow, and he remains out indefinitely. The closer tells the New York Post that he does intend to pitch again this season. "They told me that I'd take some time, let the inflammation get out of the elbow, and when it starts feeling better, to start doing more baseball-type activities," Wagner says. "Right now, I'm going to take some time. I can do some light throwing, continue to rehab and see how it progresses."

Billy Wagner will have his left elbow examined today, according to the New York Daily News. He is suffering from elbow stiffness and remains on the disabled list.
