Mariners end awful season with sweep of A's Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Yuniesky Betancourt's two-run triple in the
fifth inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics to
sweep the final series of the year at Safeco Field.
R.A. Dickey surrendered three runs on six hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings,
with two strikeouts, to earn the victory for Seattle (61-101). J.J. Putz
struck out the side in the ninth for his 15th save of the season.

Erik Bedard is slated to start his rehab from his shoulder surgery Tuesday, according to The News Tribune. He said, "They cleaned up the fraying on my labrum and took out the cyst. I start rehab tomorrow."
The Mariners are moving stud prospect Carlos Triunfel around the infield in the instructional league, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The M's still think he can play shortstop (though he has had some problems), but they want to see how he looks at second and third base.
The AP reports that Jose Lopez made his 12th start of the season at first base. Seattle was trying the usual second baseman there this month to see if he could possibly be a first baseman in 2009. Asked what he thought of that, Lopez said, No. I dont want to move.
