Nick Ferguson will remain the Texans' starting free safety over Will Demps, according to the Houston Chronicle. Coach Gary Kubiak said, "We’re searching for some identity on defense. We hadn’t been playing the way I think we’re capable of playing. We need to communicate better."

Nick Ferguson has inked a one-year deal with the Texans, according to the Denver Post. The 33-year old vet missed the last six games of the 2006 season with a knee injury, but returned to the Broncos' starting lineup for seven of the first eight games of 2007. He was replaced in that eighth game by Hamza Abdullah, who started the remainder of the season.

Nick Ferguson is working out on his own with strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten as he continues his rehab from torn meniscus cartilage in his left knee that ended his 2006 season, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "I'm trying to be ready for the camps that take place after the camps. That's what my goal is," Ferguson said. "If they choose to hold me back because they want to wait, that will be up to them. But I want to participate in them."
