"I've talked to Chad a few times," Lewis said. "My conversations with Chad this year have been no different than they were a year ago." Lewis did address Johnson's absence in general with the club, but players said he didn't talk about Johnson specifically. "What I addressed [to the team] is the fact in the NFL a lot of different situations occur throughout the season and the offseason and don't have a bearing on one particular player," Lewis said. "Guys have different things they're dealing with whether it be free agency, impending free agency, restricted free agency, whatever it may be. Different variables that occur. Whatever occurs, this is professional football and you've got to deal with it in your way." The offseason program, and the distractions caused by the absence of Ocho Cinco have officially started.

I had to be restrained (by Lewis and former Bengals wide receivers coach Hue Jackson)." Johnson also said he has not spoken to Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis or anyone else in the organization since the end of the season. The acrimony between Johnson and the Bengals organization needs to be resolved, or this situation is going to become a major distraction going forward into the offseason program.
March 10, 2008
Former Bengals wide receiver coach Hue Jackson, now Baltimore’s quarterbacks coach was interviewed over the weekend on Sirius NFL Radio and disputed Shaun Smith’s account that Chad Johnson had punched Marvin Lewis, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. " To shed light on it I'll say the same thing I said before. Chad Johnson never hit Marvin Lewis. Chad Johnson never hit me. Chad Johnson never put anybody in a headlock. Chad Johnson was very emotional at halftime of that game. The true story to all that was Chad had an IV in his arm and me, and him were talking about plans for the second half and he got emotional because he said, 'Hey, coach, without Carson (Palmer) I'm not going to be able to get the ball.' "And that's what it was and I told him, `Well, then you need to tell (offensive coordinator) Coach Bratkowski that.' And he ripped the IV out of his arm, and it's like anything else, you see blood coming out of a person's arm people think the worst. And he went from there to go into the locker room to let Coach Lewis know that, 'Hey, look, I want the ball.' And that was it. And when he opened the door he stumbled out of the training room so he was flailing and people think that he was swinging on people. Chad wasn't swinging on anybody. Chad would not hit Marvin Lewis, and Chad sure would not hit me. So that is not what happened and I'm very disappointed that now, even after two years, we have to discuss this again. But that is exactly what happened." Looks like a classic case of he said, he said to us.
March 8, 2008
Former Bengals defensive lineman Shaun Smith reportedly said during a Browns event this week that Chad Johnson punched coach Marvin Lewis at halftime of the Bengals' 31-17 wild-card playoff loss to the Steelers Jan. 8, 2006, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. A transcript of a video, since removed from YouTube, goes like this: "He swung on Marvin. (Johnson) shattered the training room glass. He swung on Marvin (and) hit Marvin in the eye. Then he tried to swing on wide receivers coach Hue Jackson, who's now in Baltimore." The Bengals had no comment on the report, but it's clear that Lewis and Ocho Cinco have personal issues that need to be resolved if the wide receiver is going to stay in Cincy and the Bengals want to succeed next season.
February 25, 2008
The Washington Redskins are attempting to work a trade that would change Cincinnati WR Chad Johnson’s address to the nation’s capital, according to the Denver Post. Despite reports that Bengals’ HC Marvin Lewis wants to retain Johnson, the rumors will just not go away. If Washington can’t work a deal for Ocho Cinco, then they might turn their sights to Denver WR Javon Walker, who like Johnson, is disgruntled and wants to be traded.
February 15, 2008
All the talk of organizations interested in the Bengals All Pro wide out Chad Johnson appear to be in vain. Cincinnati is offering no indication they will even discuss trading their top receiver, especially if it includes an eight million dollar cap hit. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Johnson gets a $250,000 workout bonus if he's in town March 24 -- and at that point leveler heads will have prevailed. We think?
February 13, 2008
Chad Johnson will not be going anywhere, even with reports circulating that he might be moved to the Redskins, according to a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer which quotes coach Marvin Lewis as saying the following: "No. 1, the guy has a contract through 2011, OK," Lewis said. "No one within the Bengals organization has ever spoken of or ever uttered anything about trading Chad Johnson, nor will he be traded." Looks like Ocho Cinco will have to keep it zipped and continue his productive ways in the orange and black, though we are certain we haven't heard the last from Johnson who seems to always want to make himself the center of attention.
February 12, 2008
Sources around the league have affirmed that the Redskins have interest in trading for disgruntled Bengals receiver Chad Johnson, according to the Washington Post. The Bengals, at least publicly, have said they have no intention of trading Johnson, but the receiver's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working quietly to broker a deal, the sources said.
February 9, 2008
Chad Johnson caused a stir at the Pro Bowl by blowing off interviews and actually coming into physical contact with one NFL employee. A possible fine appears to be in the cards. " I get out of line at times, but what great one doesn't? What great one doesn't get emotional? Find me a great one who hasn't done it like that and I'll be quiet." It's always nice to hear people be humble isn't it? The guy is a hell of a talent, but is his production on the field really worth the distraction off it? ESPN
February 6, 2008
Chad Johnson has been paid almost $16 million in salary and bonuses during the past two seasons, and the Bengals organization would incur an estimated $8 million dollar salary cap hit in 2008 if they were to trade or release him, according to the Enquirer. Since the end of the 2007 season, Ocho Cinco has been publicizing his unhappiness with the Cincinnati organization in the national media. Johnson has the Bengals between a rock and a hard place, holding substantial juice in this stare down. We will keep you updated as this story progresses.

February 4, 2008
Citing an unnamed source, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported over the weekend that Chad Johnson "feels betrayed by Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis" because Lewis "quit speaking to his receiver early in the season." The Cincinnati Enquirer contacted Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about the report, and Rosenhaus delivered the following cryptic response: "Our plan is for Chad Johnson to play football in 2008. That is how I will respond to the report." Johnson's contract calls for a $3 million base salary in 2008, and he would count $6.3 million against the Bengals' salary cap next season. If they were to trade or release Johnson, which is highly unlikely, the Bengals would probably hold out for at least a second-round draft pock as compensation. This has the makings of an ugly situation.
February 3, 2008
Chad Johnson is privately threatening to sit out the 2008 season if he isn't traded by the Bengals, because he feels betrayed by coach Marvin Lewis, who quit talking to the wide receiver early during the 2007 season, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Bengals are unlikely to deal Ocho Cinco, because they'd take an $8.8 million salary-cap hit if he's dealt or released -- that's $2.5 million more than if he stays on the roster. If you've seen him talk recently, it's clear he's not happy with his situation in Cincy. This could get really ugly if the Bengals and Ocho Cinco can't iron out their differences.
January 31, 2008
Chad Johnson doesn't appear to be happy playing with the Bengals, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. When asked in a recent radio interview if he was happy with the Bengals, this was Johnson's reply: "I'm not allowed to say. I get the blame; the so-called best player, I'm the problem. Someone in-house is spreading this. Maybe they want me to quiet down (and) stop being me. That is not going to happen. I can't function that way. I tried it. It sucked. There was no excitement." When asked if the situation was fixable, Johnson said it was up to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
