If Chris Simms believes boycotting offseason workouts will be his ticket out of Tampa Bay, he might want to reconsider, according to the St. Petersburg Times. General manager Bruce Allen indicated he has not talked to any teams about trading Simms at the NFL owner meetings, nor given Simms' agent permission to begin that dialogue. "I think the good news on Chris is that he's 100 percent healthy," Allen said. "It's been some time since he's felt that way, and I think that bodes well for him. We have a long way to go until training camp and we obviously have a long season in front of us. That position does take a pounding." The Buccaneers have paid Simms $7.1 million over the past two seasons, but he hasn’t played a regular season game in 17 months since undergoing a splenectomy. Given the long period of inactivity, many general managers around the league feel he has limited trade value.

"I just think … it's in my best interest to continue my own workouts and to just wait and see what happens with the team," Simms said. "I don't really know what's going to happen. As far as the Bucs and the quarterback position goes, it's always an adventure." Simms, who has not taken a regular-season snap since rupturing his spleen in September 2006, said he is completely recovered from the surgery, which forced him to sit out all of last season. The Bucs have six quarterbacks under contract: Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Simms, Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski and the retired Jake Plummer.

He still has some upside, but with Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski in the mix, he has an uphill climb just to make the roster.
