Jupiter, FL (Sports Network) - Marlon Anderson knocked in the go-ahead run in
the ninth and singled as a pinch hitter in the seventh to help the Mets to a
5-4 victory over the Cardinals in Grapefruit League action.
Daniel Murphy tripled with two runs batted in and Jose Valentin went 3-for-4
with two runs scored for New York. Jonathon Niese was charged with a pair of
runs on two hits and two walks in his two-inning start, also striking out two,
while Anderson made a winner of Carlos Muniz, who pitched a perfect eighth.
Rocky Cherry worked around a single in the ninth to pick up the save.
Oft-injured right-hander Chris Carpenter got the start for St. Louis and
tossed a pair of scoreless frames, walking one with one strikeout. Kyle
McClellan was rattled for three runs on three hits in three innings while
Trever Miller took the loss.
Offseason acquisition shortstop Khalil Greene drove in two runs and Colby
Rasmus banged out two hits, walked twice and scored a run in the setback.
